چکیده

Chromosome numbers are reported here for the first time from 117 individuals of Solidago rugosa and S. fistulosa. Including 178 previously published reports two species plus latissimifolia, chromosome have been determined 295 269 locations. Only diploids (2n = 18) were found throughout range fistulosa on coastal plain in eastern U.S.A. (44 counts). Polyploidy, infraspecific cytotype variation, and speciation in Goldenrods: The cytogeography of Solidago subsect. Humiles (Asteraceae) in North America

Polyploidy is an important evolutionary mechanism in plants, and in some genera (e.g., Solidago in Asteraceae) it is particularly widespread and is hypothesized to have played a major role in diversification. Goldenrods are notorious for their ploidy variation, with roughly 14% and 32% of recognized North American species being polyploid or including multiple cytotypes, respectively. We used tr...

Comparative phylogeography of unglaciated eastern North America.

Regional phylogeographical studies involving co-distributed animal and plant species have been conducted for several areas, most notably for Europe and the Pacific Northwest of North America. Until recently, phylogeographical studies in unglaciated eastern North America have been largely limited to animals. As more studies emerge for diverse lineages (including plants), it seems timely to asses...

Phylogeography and polyploid evolution of North American goldenrods (Solidago subsect. Humiles, Asteraceae)

Aim We analysed range-wide chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) variation in a clade of North American goldenrods (Solidago subsect. Humiles) to infer its biogeographical history and evolution. Our objectives were to: (1) examine the structuring of cpDNA diversity in this widespread species complex, (2) reconstruct Pleistocene refugia and post-glacial migration of the study species, and (3) test hypotheses ...

Molecular systematics, hybridization, and phylogeography of the Bufo americanus complex in Eastern North America.

We reconstruct phylogenetic relationships among a well-studied group of toads and find relationships that differ greatly from the current taxonomic understanding. We use mitochondrial sequences encoding ND1, tRNA(Leu(UUR)), and part of 16S to infer relationships among members of the Bufo americanus complex. Focusing on the four taxa that historically have been most problematic due to morphologi...

Genus-wide microsatellite primers for the goldenrods (Solidago; Asteraceae)1

UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite primers were developed for studies of polyploid evolution, ecological genetics, conservation genetics, and species delimitation in the genus Solidago. • METHODS AND RESULTS Illumina sequencing of a shotgun library from S. gigantea identified ca. 1900 putative single-copy loci. Fourteen loci were subsequently shown to be amplifiable, single-cop...
